Let’s Talk About John McCain!
March 27, 2008 by Bryan Woods

Pictured above is John McCain. War hero. Veteran. Campaign Revolutionizer. Good Guy. Future U.S. President.
In my little world of twitter and tech blogs, it’s easy for me to forget something very obvious:
Barack Obama is not the president of the United States.
And, while we’re at it, something else that is very obvious:
John McCain is not George W. Bush
- Torture - John McCain’s against that shit.
- Campaign finance reform - Not something I really care about, but an ideal that is very anti-Bush (and therefore particularly anti-Clinton, and to some extent, anti-Obama).
- Free Speech - John McCain’s all about that shit.
- Guns - John McCain will not support an assault weapons ban.
- Stem Cell Research - John McCain will fund that shit.
- Government spending - McCain, FTW.
- Taxes - Gasp! McCain was hugely against Bush’s tax cuts of 2001 and 2003.
- Trade - McCain was against Bush’s steel tariff.
- Immigration - Come on.
Why do I mention the above?
Because so many bloggers, journalists, and speakers in my circle seem to think that presenting McCain as Bush v.3.0 will vilify him and cause an Obama win.
But since so very, very many Americans (read: the ones who decide elections) don’t play heavy party politics, are centrists, and don’t give two fucks about the primaries…
And since so very, very many Americans (myself included) are good-old fashioned conservatives who really do care about things like taxes, ethics, and security…
Likening John McCain to George W. Bush is a disastrous tact to take as a democrat.
Remember, these two men are bitter, bitter rivals, and don’t in any way drink the same water.
The Republicans nominating John McCain is a risky move, but they’ve provided their party with not only an Anti-Bush, but an Anti-Politician (read: Obama [LOL NOT REALLY]).
All he needs to do is round up not only Republican Americans but also Conservative Nonparty Americans and we’ll have ourselves a contest.
he is a sexy thang, ain’t he tho?

All of your points are good. But the one I like best is the war veteran one. Put a guy who has be a POW in the White House and we will never go to war recklessly again. I am not saying that Iraq was reckless. But, this will not happen under McCain. The Reagan “Trust but Verify” rule I think will hold under McCain. Be tough enough to beat the crap out of your enemies, then sit down and talk. Give some time to discuss differences. Then kick the shit out of them. I like that. I think McCain will do that.
Stem cell research is good. But not on unborn babies. Not on aborted babies. We cannot trade on a terminated life. I don’t think McCain will do that either.
Free speech….how does campaign reform jive with free speech. I can’t give any candidate as much money as I want. That’s keeping me from making a statement. That’s restricting my right to free speech, isn’t it?
Guns…we need guns. Kill the bastard holding you up before he kills you. We’ll save money by avoiding trials where we have to supply the scum-bags with attorneys and we’ll save the money we would spend supporting them for life. So McCain is good on that one.
Taxes, Govt spending and trade…I know about the first two, but about trade, I either cannot remember or I haven’t heard McCain address this. Have to pay closer attention.
Now about immigration. The whole immigration thing is like having a prostate problem. It is one’s fun gland. Sex feels good because of the prostate. But, it becomes a problem, frequently. You have a choice. Have it excised and sex will be less fun or not possible anymore and the associated problems will go away. Or leave it as it is and have fun and endure the problems as well. I don’t know what the hell to do about the 20 million illegals we have. Can’t live with them, they’re too expensive, can’t do without them. And if you’re one of the ones who says we can do without them, you’re dreaming or smoking something.
TOO OLD DO NOT WANT
The title of this post is genius.
You know, that wallace article did make me consider him, so I will even hear him out when it comes time. The dems are really screwing themselves by making the party look weak and divided.
my only complaint is that he went back on the shit he said about Bush, stood there and supported him, and so now the republicans are like- ok, you got in line, you can have your shot.
